Description
It's a big astro show at the big rock.. milky way and 5 shooting stars on a beautiful summer night in August during the Perseids meteor shower. The big rock is a glacial erratic that was unceremoniously dumped during the glacial ice age retreat about 12,000 years ago. This huge erratic was traced to a mountain near Mount Edith Cavell in Jasper National park. It traveled almost 400 km South on the back of a glacier as it retreated to be dumped on the spot here just outside the city of Okotoks... Which means big rock in first Nations. The big rock has quite the history... First Nations used the Big Rock as a landmark, a place for ceremonies, and a location for rock art. This is a one shot image...no layering or adding in of images....just one shot. I did brighten the Big Rock a bit to have it stand it more. I tried using my flash light to light up the rock, but that created a bunch of shadows. Big Rock, Okotoks, Alberta
